Heather Sargent, PMHNP-BC

Meet your provider

With 10 years of patient care experience, I’ve served in a wide variety of psychiatric settings across the lifespan, helping clients identify and treat the causes for depression, anxiety, and many other mental health challenges. Together, we can create a plan to help you find peace of mind.

I welcome clients ages 12 and up of all backgrounds and belief systems, bringing to the therapeutic relationship my own belief that every person has intrinsic value and the potential for change.

I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a master’s degree from East Carolina University. I also hold two bachelor’s degrees, one in psychology (Vanderbilt University) and the other in nursing (University of South Carolina). With three grown children launched into great lives of their own, I enjoy many interests outside of psychiatry including photography, cooking, renovating my historic cottage, and learning to play my upright bass.

About Tree of Life

Tree of Life Psychiatric Services provides compassionate, evidence-based mental healthcare for people aged 12 years and older that goes beyond symptom management. We partner with clients to explore the root causes of mental health challenges, develop personalized treatment plans, and incorporate integrative approaches that support the whole person. Treatment plans may include psychotherapy, psychiatric medication management (where appropriate), and discussions about nutrition and health habits as an essential part of treatment. Clients who wish to explore the role of faith in their mental health journey have that opportunity.

Those suffering from issues such as depression and anxiety need to know that change is possible. Real, lasting change takes place in the context of a therapeutic relationship, you and your mental health provider. A working relationship with a mental health provider offers exceptional benefits, including:

Help from a board-certified mental health expert,

Access to appropriate therapy and medication management,

A customized treatment plan with actionable steps to healing,

and a partner in the journey who can give insight and accountability along the way.

Come work with Heather at Tree of Life to find the plan to help you endure, thrive, and find new hope for healing.

The Tree of Light by Hannah Cohoon

Why “Tree of Life”?

Tree of Life imagery has been used for millennia to represent wisdom, endurance, and life. Many representations of the Tree of Life are found throughout history, including:

Illustrations in the 9th century medieval manuscript The Book of Kells,

Artworks such as Gustav Klimpt’s painting L'Arbre de Vie, Stoclet Frieze

Assyrian carvings dating from 883–859 B.C.

And folk art from 19th Century Shakers such as Hannah Cohoon

Many early writings mention the tree of life. An example from the Bible is Proverbs 13:12:

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.”
